Well, I'll be there at the hotel 4-6 March for certain... question is whether I'm staying on. Um, any idea how far Nevada City is and how easy/difficult it is to get there via public transportation?

Nevada City's out past Sacramento on the way to Reno. Call it 3-3.5 hours by car, very doubtful there's any public transit to it.
