Lord, I'm tired.

I turned on the TV set
To check up on Battle of the Planets
At seven am on Saturday
But G-Force and Mr. Magoo
Went the way of the New Zoo Revue
And all my Super Friends have gone away
All the countless hours we spent
Watching Jimmy Olsen, Lois, Perry, and Clark Kent
I guess George Reeves wasn't bullet-proof after all
Oh Captain Kangaroo
They broke the Creepy Crawler mold after they made you
And Mr. Moose ran out of ping-pong balls
I opened my blue toy box
And found a couple dead spiders and a pair of old socks
My Batman costume doesn't seem to fit
All my Star Wars guys are gone
Except a headless Tusken Raider and the Cryogenic Han
And Boba's still digesting in the Sarlacc pit
I can't believe it's been so long
Since I stayed up past my bedtime just to play a game of Pong
My Sit and Spin has got me in a whirl
Was it ten years ago
That I'd get up once a week to watch the Krofft Supershow
With Electra Woman and Dynagirl?
I can hear the Sleestak pounding at my door
Since Puff the Magic Dragon ceased his mighty roar

I'm gonna cry (I'm gonna cry) if I can't find my View Master
      Spirograph me a pretty picture
Go Speed Racer Go a little faster
I could hear the voices of my childhood
When I traded in my Close and Play for a new six-string guitar
I was straining to hear I was straining to reach them
But Stretch Armstrong couldn't stretch that far

That song made me teary when I first heard it.

Of course, sometimes when it's in my head I sort of sing my own girly lyrics to it. EZ Bake Ovens, and such... :)

Might be an interesting counterpoint if you could come up with lyrics that scan. Boy and girl each singing their own reminisces...

And as of tonight, I figured out how to play a reasonable facsimile of the tune, too.

Hm. A good idea, that. Right now I just sort of replace Adam's part with my own, singing along with the mp3, so it's that sort of duet, but not in counterpoint.

Now I have to try that. I have a TOTAL thing for singing in counterpoint. I've never really tried writing any myself.

"I can hear the Sleestak pounding at my door

Still one of my favorite lines in filk.

Interesting. As a kid, I had no idea that when I watched Battle of the Planets, I was seeing something that was cut up and re-imagined with added footage. I thought I was just watching a poor translation.

Even then, though, I could tell that robot was intended merely to cash in on Star Wars popularity. There was so much of that going around, it was pretty much a given. :-)

Then there was the "spring water" on Star Blazers.

::sigh:: oh for a return to those childhood days free of problems and worries... where girls were only a puzzle, and not something evil that's only purpose in life was to break your heart... Where's my time-warp?
