I made level 40 on World of Warcraft! There's something mildly disturbing about the sense of elation I get from this.

Level 40 brought with it a ton of new skills and most importantly of all... a mount. Thorin now rides a brown ram, which unfortunately WoW won't let me name, unlike my pets. Well, let's pretend it's called Rocinante, then...

I should have my mount seeing as how i am at 42, but the finances at this point don't allow it. Gonna have to grind leather for a while to get the cash.

I wouldn't have had the money to get my mount if it weren't for a bit of luck and the judicious use of the Auctioneer add-on. Auctioneer has been a godsend; it scans the AH and keeps track of the market value of items so that you can immediately tell what an item is worth at the AH, whether or not it's worth selling and at what price to ensure the highest probability of a sale. It's increased my incoming revenue so that at this level I'm usually making about a gold or two with each batch of auction items, which adds up. It can also tell you what items on the AH are underpriced and therefore worth snapping up just to resell and make a profit. I heartily recommend Auctioneer.

The luck came when I was grinding for mithirl in the Charred Vale, and was attacked by a level 25 basilisk which I polished off in short order. The damnned thing dropped a Thunderbrow Ring, a blue Level 24 item which I managed to sell for 50g, bringing me over the top as far as my cost requirements for the mount were concerned.

Oh yes, I love love love auctioneer. I haven't had any great luck with drops, just a lot of greens that bring in decent money but not great money. And leather, even thick leather, only sells for so much.

I don't make much from my professions, really - Engineering doesn't really sell except to other engineers (guns being an exception) and mining is dependent on how your server economy is. At your level, though, you should be getting a lot of fair priced grey drops that can vend for a fair amount. I spent about 7g once getting traveller's backpacks and they virtually paid for themselves since that meant I could spend more time out in the field and collect more junk to sell/vend. Also, I pick up rare recipes (like Goblin Jumper Cables) and/or quest items (like Burning Charms which are neede for the level 40 fighter weapon quest which I farm from Elementals in Arathi) which can also auction for a good amount.

I didn't expect to sell that Thunderbrow Ring for 50g (not to a level 24), but at a 12s deposite I figured it was worth a shot. Auctioneer actually recommended a 112g buyout but that was only based on 1 previous sale, so that wasn't a reliable sample size. I suspect that whoever bought it was a high level who then fed it to a low level alt for battleground purposes.

I figured that if I sat down and actually worked at the AH stuff instead of levelling, I could really make a lot of money.

Yeah, the vendor trash at this point is pretty good. 25 silver here, 30 silver there.

You know, I never thought of grinding out Burning Charms and selling them.
