10 Lines #13

A special edition... devilishly difficult, even if I do say so myself.

Ten first lines from my iTunes playlist right now. Guess the songs. Play fair now, no Googling.

1. Stand and deliver!

2. Janie's got a gun, Janie's got a gun.

3. Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?

4. Baby, now that I've found you I won't let you go.

5. Ev'ry time we say good-bye, I die a little.

6. Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

7. Can't buy me love, love... can't buy me love.

8. One way or another, I'm gonna find you.

9. No woman no cry, no woman no cry.

10. Katy says, "Today is the best day of my entire life."

1. Stand and deliver!
The lyrics are used on a lot of songs but my guess is the one by Adam Ant?

2. Janie's got a gun, Janie's got a gun.
Aerosmith of course!

3. Desperado, why don't you come to your senses?
The Eagles

5. Ev'ry time we say good-bye, I die a little.

6. Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?
Beatles. I suspect you've got a cover of it but I've no clue which one since I'm not a fan of beatles covers...

7. Can't buy me love, love... can't buy me love.
Again, the original is the Beatles. But I figure you've got a cover....

8. One way or another, I'm gonna find you.
Blondie of course

9. No woman no cry, no woman no cry.
Bob Marley

10. Katy says, "Today is the best day of my entire life."

:-)

Amusingly enough, #8 is on the radio as I type this.

Let's see how many artists I can get:

1.
2. Aerosmith
3. The Eagles
4.
5.
6. The Beatles
7. ibid.
8. Blondie
9. Bob Marley and the Wailers
10. Steely Dan (?)

Hm. Disappointing. Must go back to college 30 years ago and actually pay attention to the music.

1. Proper Cup of Coffee, by Trout Fishing in America
2. Janie's Got a Gun - is that the name of the song as well? I heard it recently.
3. Desperado - again, I'm thinking that's the name of the song. Don't know the artist.
4.
5.
6.
7. Can't Buy Me Love, by the Beatles
8. One Way or Another, by Blondie
9.
10.

2) Aerosmith, "Janie's Got A Gun"
3) The Eagles, "Desperado"
6) The Beatles, "Dear Prudence"
7) The Beatles, "Can't Buy Me Love"
9) Bob Marley, "No Woman No Cry"

This is why I don't like to use songs that mention the title in the first line -- they're too easy to get. :)

I think that may have been the point, considering the date...

:) Happy first to ya.

It would be even better if these lines actually appeared in completely different, and completely obscure, songs (like citing "I read the news today, oh boy" as a line from David Bowie's Young Americans, only harder to guess).

Then again, maybe they do, and I just don't know it.

Yet, nobody so far seems to have gotten "Ev'ry Time We Say Goodbye".

Maybe because it's Cole Porter?

Without looking at the other answers ...

Hey, is this the April Fool's edition where you put the song title in the first line? :-)

1. Adam and the Ants - Stand and Deliver
2. Aerosmith
3. The Eagles
4. arghhh, gone blank
5. Guessing this is the Alison Moyet version
6. Beatles or one of the goth covers ...
7. The Beatles
8. blanking again ... Blondie?
9. Bob Marley and the Wailers
10. not the slightest idea :-)

I guessed Alison Moyet as I'm pretty sure she charted with a cover of this

Don't know who she is ... so I wiki'd. Won't be surprised if she did.

(Is "Katy..." by Christine Lavin? I know I've seen it performed at the Ark, but I'm not remembering by whom. This might have been the first one of these you've posted where I think I've heard all the songs before.)

[identity profile] rachelmichellek.livejournal.com 2008-04-05 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
I thought the lyric was "...best day of my whole entire life."
