10 Lines #15

The return of 10 Lines!

Ten first lines from my iTunes playlist right now. Guess the songs. Bonus points for guessing the artist and album. Play fair now, no Googling.

To help you narrow it down, all these songs were released between 1967 and 1978.

1. Forgot my six-string razor.

2. Saturday night I was downtown, working for the FBI.

3. If you're having trouble with your high school head.

4. In a little while from now, if I'm not feeling any less sour.

5. Standing on a corner, suitcase in my hand.

6. Creme tangerine and Montélimar.

7. It isn't the way that you look and it isn't the way that you talk.

8. Drive my truck midway to the motorway station.

9. Shadows grow so long before my eyes.

10. I'm an alligator, I'm a Mama-Papa coming for you.

8 is Tom Robinson Band, 2-4-6-8 Motorway, which must rank as the song with the most memorable chorus and least identifiable verses. Unless you've had to sing it on stage. Which I have.

3. AC/DC "Dirty Deed (Done Dirt Cheap)"

4. Gilbert O'Sullivan is the artist

9. Once I get past Will to Power's version from the late 80s, I here a live version of this. Hrm. Peter Frampton?

2. Oh, sweet. "Long Cool Woman" - The Hollies
3. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" - AC/DC (eponymous album)
6. "Savoy Truffle" - The Beatles (a George song!)

I feel like I should know 1, 5, and 9 -- they all tickle the hindbrain, but aren't coming clear.

I can hear 7 in my head, and I'm pretty sure it's Dusty Springfield, but I have no idea what the name of the song is.

Title of #4 is "Alone Again (Naturally)".

Wow, I just realized I'm terrible at this game.

Awww, no one else knows the completely obscure ELO song from "Time" - "21st Century Man."

I, on the other hand, have actually produced and directed a music video for it. It starred Popsnuh. Wearing a Charlie Brown shirt.

And that alone makes me wonder why the hell I haven't put it on YouTube yet.

2) The Hollies, "Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)"

That's all I can think of at this point.

That's interesting - I didn't think about the similar opening line to "21st Century Man". However, that's not the right song. :)

"21st Century Man" starts with "A penny in your pocket, suitcase in your hand."

#3. AC/DC "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap"

It's the only one I recognize. :)

Yeah, I left that blank, since Telynor had already said it.

No, I've not looked at any of the other answers -- I'm just good at making a public fool of myself.

(2) One of those songs I've never quite been able to understand the lyrics to -- although I can hear the music. "Tall/Long, Cool Woman in a Black Dress?"

(5) I think I'm going to kick myself when you reveal this one.

(9) Arrrgh. I can hear this music too. The only song I can think of that has a voice on it like the voice that sings those words is "Dream Weaver" (Gary Wright?) -- so I'll guess that.

(Kicks self. I've not listened to my TR albums in too long.)
