NEW SONG: Sweet Serenity
Just wondering... do I get the prize for the first original Firefly filk?
Serenity
Music and Lyrics (C) 2002 by Terence Chua
We were shuttled into Hera
Three hundred thousand strong
The War was gettin' desperate
And the end would not be long
We were fightin' for our freedom
And our rights, or so we said
But those words just lose their meanin'
When you see your best friends dead
The place was named Serenity
Peaceful as the morning air
But that was all before we said
We'd make our last stand there
So we marched into the valley
Searching heaven for a sign
We deployed our tanks and soldiers
And we swore we'd hold the line
A sniper shot the colonel
And the captain met his death
And the officers kept dyin'
'Til there wasn't no one left
Our sergeant found himself in charge
Of near two thousand men
After five short days of fightin'
We were all he had to spend
And he held us all together
And he kept us on the line
'Cuz he knew if we stopped fightin'
We were sure to lose our minds
And the bodies piled up higher
And we built forts out of men
And the smell rose up to heaven
As we bathed in blood again
Comments welcome.

So we marched into the valley
Searching heaven for a sign
We deployed our tanks and soldiers
And we swore we'd hold the line
- In sweet Serenity
Where the mountains shook like thunder
And the men just fell like rain
As the weeks dragged on forever
In sweet Serenity
Where a half a million died
Even those that walked out after
Were just as dead inside
In sweet Serenity
A sniper shot the colonel
And the captain met his death
And the officers kept dyin'
'Til there wasn't no one left
Our sergeant found himself in charge
Of near two thousand men
After five short days of fightin'

'Cuz he knew if we stopped fightin'
We were sure to lose our minds
And the bodies piled up higher
And we built forts out of men
And the smell rose up to heaven
As we bathed in blood again
- In sweet Serenity
Where neither side would yield
Grey and brown all mixed together
Dyin' on the battlefield
In sweet Serenity
As our men died one by one
And our cries of rage and sorrow
Swore a vengeance soon to come
In sweet Serenity
High above the High Commands
Were talkin' words of peace
While on the ground they left us to survive
By the time the medships came
Of our two thousand men
A hundred fifty just remained alive
In sweet Serenity
Where the peace was won at last
But those two months lost our freedom
And our rights are in the past
In sweet Serenity
In that valley of our pain
We can never ever leave
Though we try and try again
In sweet Serenity
Where the mountains shook like thunder
And the men just fell like rain
As the weeks dragged on forever
In sweet Serenity
Where our hearts will still remain
And we swear upon our brothers
That one day we'll rise again
In sweet Serenity
