[Obit] The Naked Stars

I just found out John M. Ford passed away last week, on September 25th. 'Sfunny; I was just rereading bits of How Much For Just The Planet and reminiscing to someone about how my knowledge of Klingonaase back in the day got Lawrence Schoen to get in touch with me when he was setting up the Klingon Language Institute. Ford, and his writing, will be sorely missed. He put a "human" face on the Klingons and made us understand them long before Worf was a glimmer in anyone's eye, and GURPS Time Travel is still in the top five best treatments of that genre in role-playing games ever.

Rest well, John. See you in the Black Fleet.

And though I had slain a thousand foes less one,
The thousandth knife found my liver;
The thousandth enemy said to me,
"Now you shall die,
Now none shall know."
And the fool, looking down, believed this,
Not seeing, above his shoulders, the naked stars,
Each one remembering.
          -- "The Final Reflection", John M. Ford

Sadly, we also lost Wilson "Bob" Tucker over the weekend.

There was a really beautiful outpouring over at Making Light. Mike touched a lot of people through his work.

*big hugs to you*
