So, it's over for the moment - my sojourn in the US, that is. The only thing that's managing to stave off the post-trip blues is the thought that it's only 7 months till the end of the year and that I'm taking steps to ensure my next few stays will be longer. Here I am, in Tokyo, struggling with the weird Japanese keyboard in the Yahoo! Internet Cafe here, and trying to gather some thoughts.

Chickamauga and Chattanooga with Bill and Brenda was a lot of fun, a lot of information, and a very very active day (leading to cries of "Perrier! Perrier!" or at least "IBC! IBC!" from yours truly). I saw the Chattanooga Choo-Choo, now part of a Holiday Inn where they have hotel rooms in boxcars. We even managed to catch the closing ceremonies of Confederate Heritage Month, and a tear-jerking rendition of Dixie. Although the speech by this Georgia senator about how we had to educate the young about the "truth" of the South galled me a bit. But hey, it's Heritage Month, and he's a politician. They're entitled.

The flight has been uneventful so far, and I dread to think I may actually be getting used to the length of it. The additional luggage thankfully passed muster and hopefully should make it home unmolested as well. I'm going to grab a bite to eat before boarding in about 2 hours, but before that, just some words about this last month.

It's been great. Thanks to Bill and Brenda, [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat, [livejournal.com profile] telynor, [livejournal.com profile] duality, [livejournal.com profile] weirdsister, [livejournal.com profile] adamselzer, [livejournal.com profile] jost, [livejournal.com profile] kungfoogirl, [livejournal.com profile] gala and Chris, and [livejournal.com profile] dietbubba and [livejournal.com profile] binkiegirl for visiting, [livejournal.com profile] reo, [livejournal.com profile] spiritdance and Daniel Glasser for also coming down to visit, David Rood, [livejournal.com profile] quadrivium, Elsinore, tbons, Kay, Spry-Boy, and anyone else I've forgotten to mention for making me feel at home and making me want to make the Atlanta area home for the forseeable future. I keep coming back to a comment [livejournal.com profile] telynor left, that it was nice to see me on an occasion that didn't feel like a special occasion. And yeah, that's how it felt like - not a special occasion, but one that felt perfectly natural and part of what should be.

I miss you all, but with any luck, it won't be for very long.
