Alec Guinness as Smiley! Those were the days... =:o}

I was a bit too young to follow the plot, but I remember the character and the atmosphere well. It was Mum who "watched" the show (for values of "watch" that involved concentrating on her sewing and occasinally glancing across the table at the screen); I was just in the room with it.
