End of the con
Oct. 28th, 2001 07:10 pmI was so jazzed. At the Interfilk auction, my one-off CD was the first item up and a very determined Kathy Mar got it at an astronomical bid of US$550. It's flattering beyond description for it to go for that amount, and doubly so for someone of Kathy's stature to want my CD that much.
$550. Holy fucking shit. That's really all I have to say. The auction was a lot of fun as usual, with the auctioneers hamming it up - after all, get Steve Simmons, Bill Sutton and Bill Roper together and the shtick starts flying fast and furious. The other highlight of the auction was when I had three of the Interfilk wenches draped around me while bidding for Steve Macdonald's original click track for Worldream - photos here and here. Seems to be my con for female swarming. You can also see the jester's ears I got for $30 at the auction being posed solemnly. The auction was followed by the Worldream party and that dissolved into open filking.
I had to slip away from the open filking at about 3.00 a.m., primarily because I had a workshop at 10.00 a.m. to conduct. Not that anyone else would be conscious anyway, but it's an obligation. As it turned out about 5 people attended the writing workshop with a few others drifting in and out, and I managed to kill one and a half hours out of the two hour slot. Basically I taught them the engineering specifics, showing how calculatingly my songs are constructed for emotional effect and various other approaches to songwriting.
I'm moving through most of the rest of today in a haze, due to sleep deprivation mostly. Right now I've just returned from a dinner with Dave and Ellen Weingart, Daniel and Melissa Glasser, David Rood, Erica Neely, Jodi Krangle and JP (a friend of Erica's), and feeling the post-prandial coma coming on. Hence my rather mellow tone in this entry. I'll probably remember more sometime later when I'm actually completely conscious.
Dead dog filking soon... plane leaves at 10.00 a.m. tomorrow.
