Yes, I am reduced to this. The Year of the Palindrome has been spent so far dealing with the deluge of work that was adjourned just before the holiday period to after the holidays, which is, like, uh, now. D'oh.

There was an office thing this evening (well, last evening now) we put together for the staff wherein I was forced to provide entertainment, to which I did by performing Christine Lavin's "The Kind of Love You Never Recover From" and my own "The Rest of Forever" and accompanying the rest of the Judicial Officers while they strangled out "Stand by Me" as best they could. Not that the staff really cared how good those performances were - they were either too busy eating or chatting, and they all had fun aside from that. I was just really jazzed I managed to learn how to play "The Kind of Love..." though, which is an absolutely amazing song.

Anyway, the links. My idiot sister sent me "The Date My Sister Project", not as a plea presumably, but as a means to remind me how I would never do something like this because I'm just too goddamn lazy to bother. And really, I suspect following her around on a date would be about as fun as watching paramecia divide.

Oh, as a token show of brotherly pride, my idiot sister's GPA for the Fall term is 3.9, while the youngest idiot sister in Maine made the dean's list with a 3.62. Of course, as a big brother, I attribute this blatant grade inflation to the recession.

The other link, which may amuse members of fandom out there, is "The Greek Hierarchy", courtesy of the Brunching Shuttlecocks.

Now, begone.

You say it's your birthday
It's my birthday too--yeah
They say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party
Yes we're going to a party party.

I would like you to dance--Birthday
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance-Birthday
I would like you to dance--Birthday
Dance

I would like you to dance--Birthday
Take a cha-cha-cha-chance-Birthday
I would like you to dance--Birthday

You say it's your birthday
Well it's my birthday too--yeah
You say it's your birthday
We're gonna have a good time
I'm glad it's your birthday
Happy birthday to you.

Well, it's not my birthday, really, but it's definitely yours, [livejournal.com profile] cadhla, and I'm 12 hours ahead so I get to cheer that much earlier for you, so have a good one.

Everybody saying stuff about 2002 being all the much better than 2001? Guess we're experiencing ripples from that, then. Nothing's hitting me especially hard, but some of my friends seem to be getting the worst of it. Times like this I wish I really could beam myself over to their side and take them out for drinks and/or slap them around a bit. At this distance I can't even transmit a hug.

What was it about "we might be through with the past but the past ain't through with us?"
