Look! It's transparent aluminum! Guess it took them the last 16 years to figure it out after Scotty dropped off the schematics in San Francisco...
Well, okay, not exactly. To be accurate, it's transparent alumina, i.e. aluminum oxide (Al2O3), which is a ceramic, not a metal, but it's close enough. Not that metals and ceramics are similar. It's the name, goddamit, the name.
