So I'm lying in bed, my Powerbook on my lap, surfing through
CNN.com (which informs me, incidentally, that another China Airlines jet has
crashed and 200 people are feared dead), and I pause, as it is usual for me every once so often, to marvel at the fact that at the same time I am doing this, I am able to be communicating with other people across the world, on an IRC chat room hosted on a server in Georgia, linked to a MUSH in Boston, and have access to literally a world of information with a few clicks of the keyboard - and all this taken for granted. And I think, goddamn, welcome to the 21st Century.
But I still wish we had the jetpacks and the vacations on Mars.
