Yes, satire is dead
May. 11th, 2003 04:16 pmI know, I know, Bush and Blair have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. And why not?
Consider some of their winners. Henry Kissinger, orchestrator of the illegal bombing of Cambodia and God knows how many dirty tricks with the CIA for the Nixon administration won in 1973. In 1978, Menachem Begin, Prime Minister of Israel and former Mossad assassin, got the prize. Yasser Arafat, terrorist leader, won in 1994. Jimmy Carter, the most recent receipient, whose administration propped up the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s and generously funded the Indonesian government in its campaigns against the East Timorese.
They'll be in good company.
