Not so swift
Aug. 9th, 2004 11:00 pmYou may or may not have seen the Swift Vets for Truth attack ad on TV. Although John McCain is asking for the White House to have it pulled, and of course the White House has refused to interfere except to cheekily suggest that all privately funded ads be pulled, I don't see that their conduct is incorrect. After all, MoveOn.org's ads are also equally privately funded, so what's good for the goose and all that.
What is problematic, though, is the factual content of the ad itself, with none of those who appear on it who "served with John Kerry" actually being in Kerry's crew in Vietnam, although they may have been in Vietnam at the same time with him, and most eye-rolling of all, the doctor who claims he treated Kerry for his Purple Heart injury not being the physician of record. More details follow.
