Now just hold everything

telynor and her entry for September 17 at 3:31 pm. She's not the only one reaching her limit about this. What with the round-the-clock coverage on CNN and stuff, I'm getting to the point where I'm pretty much thinking that maybe the media are exploiting this just to be able to cover air-time (No! Surely not!). I don't know about you, but the amount of vitirol and hate oozing and taking over all my favourite newsgroups is really disturbing. There's patriotism, and there's exactly the sort of fanaticism that terrorists have.
There's also this new wave of political correctness sweeping around. First some idiot on rec.arts.comics.dc.universe bitches about how Cartoon Network should take a filler animation off because it shows cartoon characters being rowdy on a plane. Then some guy in the Pyramid newsgroups talks about how maybe Steve Jackson Games should pull the Illuminati: New World Order cards Pentagon and Terrorist Nuke, when there's really no chance those cards going to even get reprinted in a new run anyway (and besides, what about the Princess Di cards?).
Now this. Clear the airwaves of songs that were written without any contemplation of the 9/11 Incident in mind.
Look, guys, it's getting fucking out of hand, and I'm reaching my limit. It's like everyone wants to show how goddamn caring they are, and how connected they are to the victims, even if they have no real connection to people in New York City, that they have to make things up. I've got a sister there, I've got friends there, I've checked they're safe, I'm sad for the victims, I'm angry against the terrorists, I don't have to repeat myself or find new things to commiserate about, or keep beating my breast and having my wild harp slung behind me.
Here's a good resolution, some months before the New Year: I will now leave it to the people in charge to do what they need to do without the need for me to find new things to whine about.
Now, in the interests of balance, I have here the Top 10 Inapproriate MP3s I Have No Intention of Not Listening To:
10. Boom Boom - John Lee Hooker
9. Dust In The Wind - Kansas
8. Leaving On A Jet Plane - Me First & The Gimme Gimmes (kick ass version I like)
7. It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) - REM
6. War - Bruce Springsteen
5. (Everyone's Your Friend In) New York City - They Might Be Giants
4. Halo of Ashes - Dust
3. Thunderball - Tom Jones
2. Life During Wartime - Talking Heads
And the number one MP3 I Have No Intention of Not Listening To...
1. It's Raining Men - The Weather Girls
Boo hoo hoo pout cry *snif*. I thank you.

Date: 2001-09-18 04:53 pm (UTC)I hear the sirens wail
Somebody going to emergency
Somebody's going to jail
If you find somebody to love in this world
You better hang on tooth and nail
The wolf is always at the door
In a New York minute
Everything can change
In a New York minute
Things can get a little strange
