We got rid of the 1991 Encyclopedia Britannica set Dad bought me several years ago - no one was really using it and it was just taking up space. We gave it to one of my uncles, who at least has a son that hopefully will try to make use of it. I didn't want to just dump it, you see. I want it to be used, because, hey, that's what books are for.

In replacement for that empty space in the living room, there's now this lacquer cabinet ($390) where I'm going to stuff my DVDs. It's about twice the size of the cabinet I used before, and it's nearly full now (you can do the math. Yes, I was severely out of space). I didn't know that the 'rents had chosen this oriental design thing - you know, the usual young bald kids playing outside a temple crap - that decorated the front. It looks hideous and incredibly chinoiserie to me, even though it's authentic. It just looks tacky. I've never been much for unnecessary embroidery.

But hey, think function. At least now I've got a place to dump my DVDs. Now if I could only figure out a system of cataloguing that makes sense to me... ah who am I kidding? Even if I came up with one it'd self-destruct within a couple of weeks anyway. Besides, Andy still has quite a number of DVDs still in his possession I need to get back.

(Last night I went on a click-fest through Amazon.com, grabbing about six Christine Lavin CDs. Yes, odd as it sounds, I've never really listened to her stuff before either, save as played by other people. The education in folk continues...)
