An American Airlines 767 just crashed in the Rockaway Beach area, Queens, inbound to JFK airport. 4 buildings on fire - AP says "several", i.e. more than 4. Giulani's called for a Level One mobilization. No news on where it came from or how many were on the plane yet.

Puts everything in perspective, doesn't it?

Actually (she says pedantically), Rockaway Beach and Far Rockaway are both in Brooklyn; JFK Airport is in Queens. Where is your sister? Ayesha just kindly called me to say she called my parents for me, she's so sweet.

I hope this is a "normal" crash, not a terrorist thing.

She's still in the city, two blocks away from the WTC. She was actually looking for an apartment in Brooklyn last week...

And I just looked at a map-- even though the Rockaways are very close to Coney Island, they're evidently in Queens. I lived in NYC for a large percentage of my life and never realized this. Go figure.
