We mourn the passing of that self-appointed moral compass of British television, that Grand Dame of Guarding the Little Kiddies from Sex and Violence, the Lady whose very complaints about a series could add another ten thousand viewers for the week following, the Woman whose name inspired a comedy troupe of often surreal proportions. Love her, hate her, mock her, she was completely sincere in her decades-long crusade, seeing filth and gore everywhere.

Rest well, Mary Whitehouse. You will be missed.
