So, saw my cardiologist against yesterday and it's business as usual. Blood and urine are normal, and with the meds, my blood pressure tops out at 110/80, so all's well on that front. Basically, he told me that I don't need to see him anymore and I could do any follow-up monitoring with my own GP. They still don't know what's causing the hypertension, but it's going to be a long term condition, so hey, that gets me out of my mortar operator job in the Reserves.

In other shocking news, I knew I was putting on weight but I was basically in denial as to how much. Standing on a pair of electronic scales while waiting to see him, I'm 68 kilograms or 150 pounds. For a 5 foot 2 incher, yes, [livejournal.com profile] swisscheesed, I am a tub of lard.

What is it about mothers anyway? Is it some weird mutation that makes them nag you about your weight and at the same time insist you stuff your face with their food? It's hard to change years of conditioning when you've been forced to clean your plate because of starving children in Africa. ("Drink your coffee! There are children in Africa sleeping!")

I know, I know. Exercise. Bleah. Hate it, I tell you. Hate it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go back to pouting childishly and read bits of Apollo 13 while waiting for my next case to show up.

Yeah I get that from my parents as well. *dangz.... the health awareness porgram pushed by our government is so successful that people start shunning pork lard for "healthier oil". At the same time every parent like to make sure that their child won't starve.

I think it's a good idea to feel hunger (not too often lah) so that we will be reminded that having food to eat is a blessing.

Heh. Our starving children when I was growing up were in Asia; I always wondered where Asians' were. (I was guessing Africa.)

My mother is not overweight and always insisted that we clear our plates. I'm overweight. My mother-in-law is very overweight but my husband is a skinny little thing. Life is so unfair sometimes. :-)

To the chick who suggested that you walk, well it's a little known fact that us Chuas do walk. A lot. It's the fact that everything goes to the gut that's the problem.

Get thee to a gym. Eat more fruits and vegetables and avoid the starches. My friend is on a carbohydrate-free diet and it's worked wonders for him.

I'm on the no/low carbohydrate diet it, and it's great. But your doctor would probably have a heart attack if he knew you were eating things like bacon and eggs daily, even if it DOES lower your cholesterol, BP, and weight. :) It is worth a thought, anyway.
