Apple is replacing it's previously free iTools service with a pay service called .Mac. For the last few years I've been happily using the free mac.com e-mail service for my POP mail needs, but there's no way in Hell I'm going to cough up US$100 a year just to use e-mail. Yes, I also get access to iDisk and the other crap, but I never use them anyway, so it's no big loss.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat, I'm now on America.net. It's $5 a month, but still cheaper than .Mac. No change to my actual e-mail address, which is still khaos@tim.org, but the mailbox will be hosted at america.net from now on instead of at mac.com, which means khaos@america.net is a viable alternate e-mail address, but khaos@mac.com will no longer be as of today.

It was nice while it lasted.

But that's where I put pictures for people to see! What were they *thinking*?

Guess I'll add more megabytes to my web account instead... I'd rather give the money to my excellent ISP.

I'm hoping that enough people will be crying foul for Apple to offer a free, scaled down version of the service, just free e-mail with a 6 MB box, and iDisk at 10 MB or something on those lines.

aaack. That's where I put pictures too. And I don't /have/ an ISP. Grrrrrr.

I still like my Mac.

But I don't like Apple any more than Microsoft, at this point.
