This is for the Singaporeans out there who order Region 1 DVDs from Amazon.com - you might want to compare prices with Amazon.ca - yes, the Canadian one - first. Since the Canadian dollar currently stands at 1.11 SGD to 1 CAD, the savings might be quite substantial (your average DVD going for US$18.74 goes for about CAD$20.99 - doing the math, that's about a 30% saving, and the shipping is pretty much the same).

A caveat: Not everything will be that cheap, of course, and there may be differences in the special features available even though it's the same region encoding - but it would probably be worth your time to do a little calculating.

The same goes for Americans looking for UK editions of various books and videos. Canada gets Region 1 releases that America doesn't.

I don't know whether to be proud or depressed about the Canadian prices. Probably the latter, since it reflects on our abysmal dollar value...

on a related note, I've found that amazon in the uk has dvds of movies that aren't available on the us site. this includes european moveies e.g. cyrano (with gerard depardieu)

The UK is also generally better about putting TV shows on DVDs - I get most of my TV stuff from there, like Sapphire and Steel, Stargate SG-1, Farscape, etc. I order from Benson's World, though, because of the free shipping.
