Driven by an urge that I am finding it difficult to explain satisfactorily or understand, I am trying to pick up some Yiddish. Halevai, I should succeed.

If I were not so horrible at languages, I would consider doing the same thing. As it is, every time I visit with my friends Lewis & Lilly, I am reminded how ignorant I am. (Lewis speaks to their son in Yiddush, and so he's fluent in it.)

Good luck. I grew up in a home where Yiddish was spoken, but never made the effort to learn, even though my mother learned it for the same reason I should have: to understand what her parents were saying behind her back in this strange foreign tongue.

Of course, one you get the hang of it, what we'll need is a few filk songs in Yiddish. :)
