Directionally Impaired
Jan. 29th, 2003 02:17 amSo,
swisscheesed is supposed to be flying home to Singapore from New York. It's JFK to Minneapolis, then thereafter from Minneapolis to Tokyo, then Tokyo to Singapore. But, being her, there's always going to be some screw-up along the way to test her faith in God and man.
So there's this mechanical fault in Minneapolis which makes the plane miss the connector from Tokyo to Singapore. Somehow, Northwest Airlines sends the entire plane to Bangkok. This is the part I really don't get, because why on earth would they send an entire plane to Bangkok when there's no connecting flights from Bangkok to Singapore at this time of night? Were they just hoping? Was it a "Aw, screw it, the hotels are cheaper in Bangkok so let's fly 'em there"? Anyway, they're holed up in Bangkok for the night until they figure out how to get them from there to Singapore in the morning.
Guess the family reunion will have to wait for the morrow. I'm sorry I'm not being more sympathetic, but really, I'm laughing my ass off on this one, imagining her hangdog expression and exasperation at the fates for being in Bangkok tonight. She's my sister, after all.
On the bright side,
playingpossum and I now have another story to tell when we next play "embarass the sibling" and point out just how directionally impaired she is.

Date: 2003-01-28 11:59 am (UTC)Sure, they did give me a voucher good for a free domestic round trip (which I passed on to someone else). But that didn't come close to either making up for the way we'd been treated or assuring that it wouldn't happen again.
Never. Never. Never!

Date: 2003-01-28 12:02 pm (UTC)It's tough to send only part of the plane to Bangkok if you've got passengers on board. I mean, what are you going to do, tear off the tail stablilizer and send it?
