"If we die, we want people to accept it. We're in a risky business, and we hope that if anything happens to us it will not delay the program. The conquest of space is worth the risk of life." - Virgil "Gus" Grissom

I had an uncomfortable feeling...

Last night HBO-W ran part 2 of its 'From The Earth To The Moon' miniseries.

The Apollo 1 part.

Once again, it brought me to tears.

Thank you, and HBO too, for reminding us of that which should never be forgotten. I only wish that more people had heeded the words you quoted.

What do we have to count on in terms of space exploration today? Star Trek? Hardly. Star Wars? Don't make me laugh. Farscape? Though I like the idea of an INTERNATIONAL Aeronautics and Space Administration, I doubt NASA would grow in that direction.

NASA? What has it done for me lately?

Does anyone else have anything? Can anyone else do anything? What happened to the dreams of space exploration?

WHY AREN'T WE GOING?!

I just got to your LJ entry now -- right after the Columbia explosion.

Somehow it's a frighteningly appropriate quote.
