US firms set to cash in on reconstruction of Iraq
The American government is on the verge of awarding construction contracts worth hundreds of millions of dollars to rebuild Iraq once Saddam Hussein is deposed.

Halliburton, one of the companies in the running for the highly profitable deals, was formerly headed by the US vice-president, Dick Cheney. Halliburton has already been awarded a lucrative contract to resurrect the Iraqi oilfields if there is a war.

Other companies have strong ties to the US administration, including the construction giant Bechtel, the Fluor Corporation, and the Louis Berger Group, which is involved in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Halliburton. Who got the contract to rebuild Saddam's oilfields after the 1991 Gulf War and making millions while helping the dictator get back on his feet again. Halliburton. Who, under Dick Cheney, through subsidaries, signed contracts worth US$73 million with Iraq in 1997 (despite Cheney insisting later that they didn't) selling oil industry parts and equipment. Halliburton. Whose facilities in Iraq will probably now be destroyed by bombing, only for them to rebuild them again, to more profit. Halliburton. Who, like Enron, used questionable "aggressive" accounting tactics to inflate profits. Halli-fucking-burton.

Wonder how much of a payout the GOP will get this time?
