Nothing really to update. War looms - read it yourself. The world is still in its handbasket. I'm going to watch Rumpole of the Bailey and pretend it's all not going to happen and think happy thoughts like how these are my last few months in Singapore and maybe get some sleep. Grounds of decision to write, notes of evidence to go through. These can wait. These can wait.

There have been 4 murders in the last week in Singapore and another stabbing today yet to be confirmed whether or not it's homicide. The Special Investigations Section of the CID is being run ragged, but thankfully for at least two of them suspects are is custody and it's pretty open and shut. Considering that murder is a rare thing in Singapore, this is one hell of a cluster effect.

How many murders does Singapore average in a year? What's the population?

Last year (2002) we had 22 cases of murder (down from 32 in 2001). As of June 2001, the population of Singapore (residents and foreigners) totalled about 4.1 million. Taking the 2001 murder rate and population, that's about 1.28 murders per 100,000 population, mostly domestics.

Well, I don't think you look quite like Leo McKern, so, uh... no.
