U.N. pulls out from Iraqi border

KUWAIT CITY (CNN) --U.N. observers have ceased all work in the demilitarized zone on the Iraq-Kuwait border, withdrawing all remaining personnel from the area.

In a development analysts have called a concrete sign of impending war, staff from the U.N. Iraq-Kuwait Observer Mission (UNIKOM) began leaving posts on both sides of the zone Monday.

The move came after U.S. President George W. Bush said Sunday the "moment of truth" was approaching and giving the U.N. one last day for diplomacy to work.

Indeed. And may St. Patrick (or anyone!) send the US president some *sense* and humbleness. Who does he think he is to know better than everybody else what to do and force *another* war on the world... The world has seen far too many wars already...

He's had no sense or humbleness thus far.

It would be nice to believe in *someone*, *somewhere* who could whap him upside the head and scream in his ear, "WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING, YOU IDIOT!" though.

He and his ilk are eschatologists. Their brand of Christianity includes the belief that these are the end times, or close to them, and that they've got to act as if it were their job to get things all neat and tidy for Jesus when he comes back. They'll listen to common sense when the Son of God comes down from heaven and throws down their prayer meetings for turning his Father's house into a den of thieves, and not a moment before - and even then I don't know if they'll listen.
