Bush to Tell Saddam: You Have Two Days to Leave

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush on Monday pulled the plug on diplomacy and prepared to unleash war on Iraq by telling President Saddam Hussein he must accept exile within 48 hours or face the full military might of the United States.

Bush and his allies, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, decided early on Monday there was no chance of winning U.N. authorization for an ultimatum to Iraq and stopped efforts to win a majority in the Security Council, signaling the end of diplomacy.

The United States warned foreigners to get out of Iraq quickly. U.N. weapons inspectors and other foreigners scrambled to evacuate Baghdad, ahead of an expected massive U.S. aerial bombardment which will be followed by a ground invasion to kill or capture Saddam and dismantle his government.

Saddam rejected a demand that he flee, with Iraq's foreign minister saying "any child" knew the idea was a nonstarter.

No more pretense it's about 1441. No more concern about Weapons of Mass Destruction. It's now perfectly clear that it's all about regime change, all about getting a compliant government in place rather than any high ideas about protecting the world by getting Saddam to disarm.

Note this, and vote accordingly. If they'll still let you next year.

Ah, I can hear it now: "Welcome to the U.S. Congress, a division of the Department of Homeland Security!"

Well, no.

The world will survive.
The UN and the US probably will recover, eventually.
The Middle East ... is used to senseless bloodshed.

And I suppose that, in this speech, we got that much-trumpeted "Moment of Truth," after all. No, nothing truthful about the allegations, so far as anyone has demonstrated, but the motivations were coming through loud and clear.

Query: Is there any way the unPresident could have been any more offensive, to anyone?.

The world will survive, yes.
But this attack by the US is going to sow & nurture so much hatred for the US and the "west" in the middle east and elsewhere in the world... *sigh*
