I'm watching "Say Anything" again right now. Memories of life in high school come flooding back. I'm not entirely sure it's a good thing. There were great times in high school and some really horrible times as well. And while I can sit through a John Hughes movie because it's just wish-fulfilment fantasy, I'm not sure I can sit through "Say Anything" because it's so damn real that sometimes it just hurts to watch. Not that I ever dated anyone like Ione Skye, but it's just that time in one's life. If I'm making any sense.

Then again, John Cusack is my hero. I gotta organize a John Cusack/Jeremy Piven film night at some point.

A lovely film...

I went to high school with you, and I do believe you are idealizing, my friend.

Sorry, Chris, but you didn't spend Secondary School with me - you only knew me through Scouts, and some bits at Leisure Craft, but didn't hang with my year's people, or my bunch of geeks. You also didn't spend Junior College with me. You saw some part of it, the parts with Joyce, but not everything.

Yeah, I agree...but I still think secondary school in Singapore is a pretty far cry from anything you'd see in a Cameron Crowe movie.

Then again, there are certain things about being of that age that are pretty universal...the sense that anything is possible, the ability to dream big, etc.

:-)

Oh, no - please. I was never talking about high school being like in America. As I say in the post, I never dated anyone like Ione Skye. It's that time, though. Making plans, having your parents make plans, fighting with your parents about those plans, wondering if those plans are going to work out, fitting in, not fitting in, being too smart, too dumb, taking first fumbling steps towards relationships, figuring things out before you emerge from one kind of world into another kind.

I like Jeremy Piven. I want to watch that short-lived series where he plays Cupid.
