I'm reading the paperback edition of Greg Palast's The Best Democracy Money Can Buy right now. The first chapter alone, about the Florida election scandal, scared the hell out of me. I knew that it was bad. I didn't know it was this bad. Run, don't walk, to the bookstore - buy it, and read it. If I could afford it, I'd buy you a copy. I mean it.

Sounds good; I'll pick up a used copy when the opportunity presents itself!

I believe we just picked that up in our last Barnes and Nobles run. But we get so many books each time, its hard to keep track.

I haven't yet read the book you mentioned, but "Mother Jones" magazine and "The Progressive Populist" newspaper keep me roiled up and informed at the same time. My personal view is that Bush and his Crusading Crew of compulsive liars and 'compassionate' conservatives are a result of the past several decades of increasingly self-centered consumerism, not only in the US.

We have forgotten how to _share_ the wealth -- good air, clean water, abundant food, shelter, income more than sufficient for our needs -- and it is Sharing that makes the world go 'round, the kind of loving attitude that acts out of our Oneness rather than emphasizing our degrees of Separation.

"...Send not to ask for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee..." and me and we and them and humankind in general. If we cannot figure out how to stop grabbing and start sharing, I suspect this war will not end until the entire world has been turned upside down. Bummer, ain't it.
