khaosworks | Cassandra Update, Part 3

Brought her to the AppleCentre, and had a word with the tech guy there. He thinks that he'll have to replace the whole logic board, but I told him that it doesn't really make sense if it might be a loose connection, so he says he'll try dismantling it over the weekend and reconnecting everything and see if that solves the problem. If not, he'll check whether the store-bought warranty I got for Cassandra is covered by Apple. If so, he can replace everything free of charge, and even give me a new casing for her (Cassandra's painted chassis has been peeling since day one and has definitely seen better days). If not, I'll just shlep it back to the store and let them sort it out with Apple as to who pays the S$1,200 bill, and which will take weeks longer because of the bureaucracy - but best case scenario, if AppleCentre can cover it, Cassie should be back with me by Thursday.

In the meantime, I am disgusted with the FCC deregulation, but then again I don't place much stock in American broadcast media anyway - believe me, BBC and the Guardian are always high on my list of news sources to look at before CNN. And don't even talk to me about FOX.

I am also appalled at the $350 billion tax cut, which, although I hesitate to agree with a capitalist baron like Warren Buffet, bodes nothing but ill for the American economy and especially welfare programs. Hopefully, though, Bush will pay for it at the polls. Assuming he doesn't rig it with electronic voting machines first.

In the meantime, I'm going to watch the 2nd season of the West Wing on DVD and dream of a White House that I actually would like to believe in. And awaken. And weep.
