Good News: Cassandra is back in my hands, with a brand-new screen. Cheap bastards wouldn't spring for replacing the chipped-off paintwork, though, but at least the scratches on her cover are gone since they replaced the whole unit there.

Bad News: After I have packed my worldly goods, they tell me they need an exact count of how many books, CDs, DVDs, etc. per box for customs purposes, which means I have to haul my ass down to the warehouse at some point, open the boxes, count the fucking items inside and then reseal them before they can be shipped.

It never ends.

Try to keep track of which box has what. When I'm supposed to move to Canada, I have to present a list of all the things I'm bringing in.

It could be worse ...

... they could require the author, title and approximate value of each book, and the title of each CD and DVD ...

... I started building lists of mine but there are so many and there is so little time ... I stopped at 1000 CDs, 150 DVDs and 5000 books, but there are more, so many more ...

... aiieeeee! You have my sympathy :-(

It could be worse ...

We received a suggestion (not yet implemented) related to our homeowner's insurance: take a video camera and walk through the house, scanning it slowly over the bookshelves, CD racks, etc. This seems the right balance between the PITA of actually cataloging and the tragedy of not having a list to submit if the house burns down or something awful like that.

Terrence, if you have a digital camera, you might want to take a few shots of each open box to help you figure out what's where later (and document contents if you have to).
