This somehow disturbs me strangely.

I never did quite *get* American style doughnuts.

There'd be there in the coffee room every Monday morning in Redwood City and I'd think, Mmmmm, Sweet things. Then I'd take a bite and think.

Ugh... Sweet chewy euk.

Maybe its cultural?

Doughnuts should be ovoid, sprinkled in sugar and full of jam which will go everywhere when you take the first bite.

Nah, I've seen them. The sugar is too powdery. You need course large grantulated chunks which disolve into your hands leaving them sweet and icky until after the 2nd washing...

Umm... I think I'd better go and lie down now.

I suspect that the non-stop flow of sugar will pall and you will find yourself craving Singaporean food again.

As exquisite as a hot, fresh glazed Krispy Kreme is, I'd still go for the Lor Mee from the hawker center across the road from the World Trade Center everytime.

have you ever seen a krispy kreme donut factory, where they roll out the little rings on conveyor belts to be drizzled in sugar after they've been drenched in hot oil? i'd much rather spend my calories on a greasy mee pok and es kachang any day. :)

(Yes, I have, actually - I've been there, nose pressed to the glass after we've spotted the FRESH DOUGHNUTS sign and done a bootlegger's U-turn in the car and screeched to a halt outside the shop)

There's mee pok and then there's mee pok, you see. There's this great cheap stall in People's Park Complex Hawker Center, for example, that's really generous with the minced pork and slices of liver...
