That's my new address, by the way. Many many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] surrdave, [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat and [livejournal.com profile] kitanzi for helping me move up from Marietta yesterday and also ferrying me around trying to outfit a life. I discovered that doing so is very, very expensive, but I got to keep telling myself most of it is a one-time thing.

Getting around in Athens is not easy - yet. Because it's a college town, it basically shuts down until summer is over, and although my complex has a bus stop just outside, the route won't be serviced until August 11. Also, buses don't run on Sundays.

The apartment is spacious enough for one - stuff needs work... the air-conditioner is a trifle underpowered, and some of the lights don't work, but the realtor assures me that this will be dealt with. For the moment, I can't really complain. I got cable and internet hooked up, a microwave and a bed - what the hell else do I need?

I won't be getting bookshelves until my stuff actually arrives in mid-August, so it's going to look more filled up then - but here's the initial shots of what my apartment looks like.

I need to call Georgia Power on Monday to make sure the electricity isn't cut off and open an account with them, and send off the first month's rent check to the realtor, as well as find renter's insurance and a nearby driving school. All this while attending orientation. It never ends.

Visit me!

Needs a little personalizing - but that will happen as time goes by. Looks big enough and usefully laid out. I hope your time there will be a happy one! *hugs*

Looking good, Gork.

If you're not too picky about shelves, these (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=1757088&cat=91849&type=1&dept=4044&path=0%3A4044%3A103150%3A91790%3A91849v) are the ones I have -- they're cheap and pretty sturdy if you don't overload the shelves (tip: keep heavy books at the bottom) and you don't have a rascally kitty to topple them over.

How many books can it hold?

Well it's five shelves -- so I would recommend buying a few sets depending on the number of books you have/will acquire.
