Stephen Colbert, on the Democratic speeches emphasizing that they are sons of mill owners, milk truck drivers and goat herders...
"That's why I believe in the promise of America: that I, the son of a turd miner, the grandson of a goat ball licker, can one day leave those worthless hicks behind whilst still using their stories to enhance my own credibility."

So what'd you think of Al Sharpton? I confess I was not entirely pleased.

I kind of tuned him out, actually, after all. I don't think he'll have much impact, either way.

One of the CNN analysts hit it squarely: Sharpton can be political cyanide for the Dems, but used wisely, he can be a serious force. Remember, he polled biggest in the South and urban areas -- minority groups being heavily in the populace -- and if he is confined to those spots, he will rally the troops.

Best lines: "If Bush had appointed the Supreme Court in place in 1954, Clarence Thomas would never have gotten a chance to go to law school" and a blunt statement -- not that it's not been said, but never at this level of exposure -- that Bush squandered the greatest level of moral advantage the US had ever enjoyed, post 9/11, to a point where we have virtually no allies of consequence in the world.

(He's being quoted lots here in NY on news radio, since he's the hometown boy.)
