Did you happen to notice that he was captured a few days ago, but the announcement was held until just prior to Kerry's speech (via): The Pakistani security sources said the arrests took place Sunday morning after a standoff that began Saturday night in Gujrat, just southeast of Islamabad. (emphasis mine)

What's so surprising is that they did this in the way they did even after the "surprise" was made public months in advance. (Apparently in an article by John B. Judis, Spencer Ackerman & Massoud Ansari; I can't seem to find the original, but it's referred to here.
