After another few frantic phone calls, including one to a dealer [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat knows in Duluth, I have learned - much to my surprise since I am a complete novice when it comes to the technical sides of guitar construction - that the Baby Taylor has a bolt-on neck. A luthier I spoke to in Roswell suggested that it might be simpler and cheaper just to replace the neck rather than glue the headstock back on.

Calling the dealer in Duluth, he said that he wouldn't want to attempt a repair like that and suggested that I send it to Taylor instead. A call to Taylor's customer service center has revealed the name and address of a guy at a Guitar Center in Atlanta which is one of two Taylor repair centers in Georgia. I called Guitar Center up, and will be winging my way to them, hopefully, on Saturday - for reference, the address is 1485 NE Expressway #761, Atlanta GA 30329, number: (404) 320-7253.

According to the guitar tech, though, we're at the mercy of Taylor as far as getting a replacement neck goes, so I will be guitar-less at Worldcon... well, one less thing to lug around, I suppose.

I know we have one in the house - massively out of tune right now, of course - that would probably be available for your use should you want it.

Thanks. I may just take you up on that.

I'll even tune it. :) It's a nylon-string, and [livejournal.com profile] bercilakslady is taking it home after Worldcon.

Presumably he can go ahead and order the replacement neck while waiting for you to bring the guitar in if you give him a credit card number. (May as well get the process started.)

Good luck with the guitar! (I forgot -- how did the headstock get damaged?)

It's still a minor mystery, but I figure that the neck got cracked somehow during transit from one locale to the other, and the tension of the strings took it all the way.

Ouch!

I am sure someone there will have one you can serially borrow.

"Melody" (my 3/4-sized 6-string Takamine) will be there. You've borrowed her before; you're welcome to borrow her again.

Just let me know if you want me to bring The Beast That Eats My Fingers, because I'll leave it home otherwise.

If it's not too much trouble, bring it long.

And in case you really want to play a Baby Taylor, I'll have James there too. I expect we'll be in the same room a lot, and I can just hand him across to you.

*hugs*
