... that have fixed that "feature" which means you can only download onto the iPod using iTunes (or some other compatible/hacked bit of code that pretents to be iTunes). If it just mounted as a USB hard drive, then I'd be lined up outside the Apple store for my black 60Gb one right now!

I'm not sure how it works on the PC, but on the Mac, it mounts like a hard drive even though it activates iTunes at the same time. Or do you mean for music purposes?

You can use an iPod as a hard drive at least with a Macintosh, so you can put anything at all on it. But you can't load music for iPod playback that way.

I wish Apple would make the audiobook feature useful. I've copied a number of CD audiobooks onto my iPod, but unless it's an Apple-designated "audiobook," it just treats each track as a separate "song."
