55 and still alive

Hit 55 a couple of nights ago on World of Warcraft, and was gathering various quests to go into Black Rock Depths this weekend. Tonight I was just thinking of doing a little mining to get my skill up so I could mine thorium, when one of the guild asked me if I'd like to join them in Lower Black Rock Spire.

Now, for months I've been watching the "bigger kids" do their raids and regretting not being high enough level yet to join them. Now I could! And it was a really good thing I did. The others were already plowing their way through the dungeon, and even before I got to them some mob dropped the Beaststalker Gloves which I had been thinking I could never possibly afford (they're going for 200 to 250 gold on Durotan's Auction House).

As if that wasn't enough luck, when the last boss dropped, lo and behold, the Beaststalker Mantle was there. I didn't even notice it until someone asked me to just take it, and I was dumbstruck for a second. Being lucky twice in one night, when some people have to run LBRS dozens of times before that drops was just too much. I was so happy that I wanted to hug everyone. I have a great guild. No arguments over loot, just give it to those that need it.

So now I'm about 2/3rds of the way through 55, got 4 pieces of my Tier 0 armor set, got a new pet (a Winterspring polar bear named Thornton), even got my class weapon (Hunter's Spear), and this weekend I and four of my guild mates are going to go down into Black Rock Depths and kick some Dark Iron Dwarf ass as I continue my journey towards level 60.

Life in Azeroth is good.

Yeah, I find it -greatly- helps having a good guild. We've just started Molten Core, after having fought our way through Zul Gurub first, and we're well-oiled enough that even with new bosses, we're plowing through them. Plus, as we're reassessing what people need (mainly, more defense for some of the tanks, and Fire Resistance for everyone), the whole guild is helping out -- I've had people donating defense stuff to me right out, and then when we got lucky on a Scholomance run and two of the newly upgraded Deathbone set pieces dropped, the Pally in the group didn't even hesitate before telling me to take them. I think Karma smiled on him, though, since the next night he got his Lightforge Chest while we were running through to get me the Draconian Defender. It's a pretty noticable difference when your Defense skill goes up 50+ points in two days, let me tell you.
