DVD deluge

A whole lotta DVDs arrived today, so I know what my viewing patterns will be for the next few weeks.

In the "never seen before" corner: Veronica Mars, Seasons 1 and 2 — I've never seen VM before, but many people whose opinion I respect tell me its good, and I love Rob Thomas's Cupid, so I figure I'll give it a shot.

Also, I got myself House, Season Two. My sister bought me Season One last year, and I'd watched some episodes with [livejournal.com profile] autographedcat and [livejournal.com profile] kitanzi before I left the US, so looking forward to catching up with House and the gang.

In the nostalgia bin, since they were going cheap and didn't add to shipping all that much, I got myself Heathers, The Great Mouse Detective and Mortal Kombat. Yes, Mortal Kombat. I love this movie. It is, to my mind, the best damn video game movie ever made, which, despite how it sounds, is not damning with faint praise. MK is the only video game movie which delivered precisely what it promised: no pretences to plot, or character, or acting, just cool fight scenes with powers just like in the game. And it has a great techno theme. I promise you, if I ever get married again, that theme will open the reception dinner. Imagine waiters coming out with the first cold dish as a harsh voice repeats, "Test Your Might..." Tears to my eyes, I tell you.

But wait, there's more. The one I'm slipping into the player immediately. Darkwing Duck. I really can't say much more than that.

So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to get dangerous.

That's one of my top ten favorite songs of all time. I ran (don't laugh, yes I ran, if only a short while) to it just yesterday. And I auditioned for majorette in high school to it too.

Mortal Kombat rocked my socks enough that I picked up some of the music. The CD is long gone, missing from a move no doubt, but the movie still delivers.

I have to say, I will never forget the expression on [livejournal.com profile] khaosworks's face when we burst into the Magical Mystery Medley.
