By way of The Planetary Chance Machine: Not a hoax! Not a dream! Not an imaginary story! Okay, it's just a really funny coincidence! From the North Carolina Republican Party office:

Hal Jordan Files To Run Against Speaker Jim Black
(RALEIGH) – Hal Jordan, a Republican from Charlotte, filed today to run against Speaker Jim Black in House District 100. Mr. Jordan was joined by Linda Daves, Vice Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party and John Aneralla, Chairman of the Mecklenburg County Republican Party.

“Hal Jordan is an excellent candidate to run against Speaker Jim Black,” said Ferrell Blount, Chairman of the North Carolina Republican Party. “He holds strong Republican values and would be a valuable asset in eliminating the corruption and waste occurring in the North Carolina General Assembly.”

During a statement prior to filing, Hal Jordan announced that one of his primary messages is to restore trust in the state government. An investigator with the State Board of Elections recently testified that Speaker Jim Black violated at least three state election laws. The allegations include Black giving contributions in the name of another, accepting more than the $4,000 contribution limit set by state law, and filling his campaign’s coffers with $27,625 in corporate contributions.

Jordan also announced his support for lowering the tax burden on all North Carolinians, beginning with reducing the gasoline tax, and slowing the growth of government spending. Jordan also supports a Constitutional Amendment defining marriage between one man and one woman.

Hal Jordan has deep ties with the Mecklenburg County Republican Party. He has served in several volunteer roles, including Precinct Chairman, for the past 17 years. Jordan is a member of Christ Covenant Church where he serves as a Deacon.

Hal Jordan has been married to his wife, Jeannine, for 22 years. He has four children, James (18), Irene (17), Carolyn (13), and Audrey (10). Jordan, 46, has worked for IBM for 23 years, and he currently is a Consulting Software Sales Representative.

“I look forward to running against Speaker Jim Black and serving the citizens of southeast Mecklenburg in House District 100”, said Hal Jordan. “The allegations that have plagued the Speaker have cast a shadow of serious doubt over his credibility. My commitment is to be open and accountable in order to restore trust in the District 100 Representative.”

(Insert obligatory lame Green Lantern joke here involving one from the yellow column, one from the 24-hour-charge column and one from the no fear column. Or, if you're in NC, go up to him during a meet-and-greet and ask him the question about the "purple skins", the "orange skins" and the "black skins" from Green Lantern #76. You know you want to.)

Not quite as good as when AT&T went from having Charles Brown as its chairman to having James Olsen as chairman.

I note that no mention of Hal Jordan's inate honesty is made. And also that Hal apparently named his only son after his brother, Jim Jordan.

Six years ago, in Greene County, Ohio, there was a man named Gordon (I forgot his first name) who was running for county commissioner. The ads said "Elect Gordon for Commissioner" but I was thinking "Commissioner Gordon...cool....Xenia becomes the new Gotham City."

Some years ago, Texas had a state treasurer named Jesse James.
