Congratulations on your successful stage-door haunting!
I'm not at-all Up on my Whosits: which Doctor did this actor portray? I'm most familiar with the Third Doctor and REALLY lost track after he was replaced by the chap who played Tristan in "All Creatures Great and Small".
Glad you got to meet McCoy. He was very gracious and charming when I met him about 15 years ago. No, not at a con, oddly enough. It was a "Doctor Who Day" sponsored by MD Public TV (local PBS), which has run the show nonstop on Saturday nights for at least 20 years and and is smart enough to notice that Whovians are their most faithful contributors.
I'm familiar with that phenomenon. Channel 8 (Nashville PBS) did sort of the same thing, using Dr. Who as a cash cow for about 3 years. They made the bad mistake of allowing their own foibles to gain control of their good sense, and let it become known that cash cow was EXACTLY how they looked at Dr. Who, and they really didn't care about the fans at all. This was brought home when they brought Tom Baker and Colin Baker to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center for a talk to the fans. I was there, but due to the 'unexpectedly large turnout' (how can you NOT expect a large turnout when the most popular Doctor was coming to town?!?!) they announced that not everyone would be able to get autographs about half way through the line. Colin Baker apparently had to catch a flight, because he walked up the line, signing as he went, so I got what I wanted from him fine. Then, half an hour later (claiming they had to clear the hall due to their contract), the Channel 8 guys started shooing anyone not already on the stage out. I, very disgusted, want into the lobby and hung around grousing with some friends. Then another fan rushed out a few minutes later, saying Tom Baker (who was still there) said for everyone to come on the stage right now! He was going to finish regardless of what the Channel 8 guys said or did! So, those who hadn't left yet did get to meet him and get photos/autographs. Since Dr. Who fans had made up about 40% of the volunteers for Channel 8's fund drives for the previous 3 years, they were more than a little surprised when NONE of us turned out to help them at the next one. Dr. Who vanished from the Nashville airwaves at the end of the then-current contract, and, so far as I know, has never returned to any of the local stations. And this was at least 15 to 20 years ago.
