I'm terribly, terribly curious now. Was this just the song you randomly woke up with in your head, or is this commentary on something in your life/on your tv/in your line of sight/in your thought process at the moment?

The personal soundtracks are usually just stuff that's running through my head at any given moment. Whether or not it has anything to do with my actual life (and god, in this case, since the song is really about the post-AIDS dynamic, I hope not) is coincidental or unconscious. This particular Leonard Cohen was playing on my iTunes, and it's one of my absolute favourites. And I just learned to play it on guitar.

Chords are pretty basic and the same throughout, so I'll just give you a verse and the chorus. This is as usual the key I find it easiest to play in, capo and/or transpose where appropriate:

Interesting; I didn't know this was a Leonard Cohen song. I've heard it somewhere as a cover, I think on some compilation anthology; it might've even been a benefit-for-AIDS-research CD, but I just don't recall for sure, nor do I recall offhand who covered the song.

It was good, though. :-)
