You know, I didn't really think much of Treasure Planet as a whole, but all through it I kept thinking that Captain Amelia deserved her own movie.

I fully expect to see many "missed it by THAT much" reviews once it's out. It could work, but I strongly doubt it. It faces the same problem any remake of something fondly remembered has; even the original isn't as good as it's fans tend to remember, so the remake has to be better not only than the original, but better than the original with all the bad parts conveniently forgotten.
