You're thinking of "The Cuckoo Tree". The ten gentlemen were named after the northern English sheep counting system "Yan, tan, tethera."

Pronunciation varies with the region. The one I'm using is from Lincolnshire. Yan, tan, tethera, pethera, pimp, sethera, lethera, hovera, covera, dik, yan-a-dik, tan-a-dik, tethera-dik, pethera-dik, bumfit, yan-a-bumfit, tan-a-bumfit, tethera-bumfit, pethera-bumfit, figgot.

I always find it etymologically interesting to compare some of these 'numerals' with the Welsh ones. Five is 'pump' in Welsh, pronounced as 'pimp', for instance.
