Peering into the future
Aug. 14th, 2007 04:21 pmSo, Comic-Con next year, for which I have pre-reg'd, is from July 23-27.
Worldcon next year, in Denver, is from August 6-10.
One week separates them.
Hm.
Possible to do both, but... what shall I do in the week or so in between? And is anyone (aside from the obvious Denverites like Kathleen Sloan) planning on being there?

Bags are packed
Jul. 23rd, 2007 09:18 pmBags are packed. Sorta. Kinda. You know how I am. I just throw stuff in the bag and hope it'll spontaneously rearrange itself into some kind of order. Entropy, ha!
Flying off at 1015 hrs local time tomorrow, and will land in LAX at 2.20 pm Pacific Time on 24 July 2007, to be hopefully met by Lee Gold. Then take the Surfliner down to San Diego the next day.
Will update when appropriate.

San Diego trip
Apr. 5th, 2007 08:33 pmSo I'm finalising my plans for the San Diego Comicon trip, and wondering if I should extend my stay after the con - seems a shame to just go there and not see anyone else. Anyone in California want me to visit?
(One of the things I'm thinking about is maybe taking a trip down to Anaheim to the Disney California Adventure park to take the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride. Yes, I'm a geek. Of course, my knowledge of Californian geography is sketchy at best, so I really don't know where you all stay or what's in easy reach. Let me know?)

Update: I'll be a little late
Jan. 3rd, 2007 06:25 pmCrap.
Just after I posted the last one, I discovered that my passport expires in April. In case anyone else except my moronic self wasn't aware of this, you need to have at least six months left on your passport to travel around. So I ran myself down right away to Singapore Immigration to see if I could get a last minute extension.
Nope.
Best they could do is to issue me a new passport tomorrow afternoon, which means I'm going to have to push my flight back 24 hours or so. So I'll be in about 8pm on Friday night instead of the Thursday evening. Bummer.
I'll be there. Just a little later than scheduled.

Here's a nice little e-mail to wake up to:
It starts about halfway down the file, after they do a "Happy Birthday" to Cthulhu and a rendition of "It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Fish-Men" (from the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society's "A Very Scary Solstice", on which more professional versions — i.e. not me — of my "Cthulhu Christmas Chorale" can be found). The sing-a-long of "Do You Hear the Pipes Cthulhu" gets off on a shaky start but they really get into it in the end, and is followed by an abortive version of "That's Cthulhu!" (I don't think they knew the tune for the bridge) and ends with "The Song That Cannot Be Named".
Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling of course, hearing other people do my songs — especially since it's for a 25th anniversary celebration of Call of Cthulhu, the game that got me into Lovecraft in the first place and therefore was ultimately responsible for my filk — full circle, indeed. To quote Charles Fort, whose work also inspired Lovecraft: "One measures a circle, beginning anywhere."
Subject: Do you hear the pipes Cthulhu - Performed live at Continuum! Date: 28 August 2006 12:49:00 AM GMT+08:00 Hi Terrance, Thought you might geta kick out of this. Live from Regent Street
Feb. 9th, 2006 05:18 pmThe Regent Street Apple Centre to be exact, leeching off the free wi-fi.
Still in London — been doing a lot of walking, and man, are my dogs tired. London is February is actually colder than I remember it, and the sky remains the colour of a television set tuned to a dead channel — something to be said for consistency. Don't get me wrong. I'm loving the city, as always. I'll talk more about my wanderings (which is really going over old ground to me, but may be of some small interest to posterity) when I get back.
Anyway, the last of the 1812Tones photographs are up on Flickr, for those interested. 'Twas a con, good like any other, and I've been to enough Sutton-run cons to know what to expect. It's always nice to see family, especially the chosen variety.
Will be having dinner with
telynor and Co. shortly. See y'all later.

On the way to Grantham
Feb. 3rd, 2006 12:26 pmUpdating the LJ courtesy of GNER's wireless service, which constantly gets interrupted because of either a bad pipe, going into tunnels, or both. Whatever. Anyway, got in safely last evening after a long, long flight from Singapore to Bangkok and thereafter to Heathrow and got a relatively good night's sleep in my old rooms in Hornsey.
Now am on the 12.05 to Leeds, stopping by Stevenage, Peterborough and Grantham. I expect to be at the con hotel at 3-ish or thereabouts, just in time for check-in.

Coming to 1812
Dec. 12th, 2005 01:15 amWell, I've submitted my leave for the period from February 2, 2006 to February 13, 2006. I'm going to look into plane tickets tomorrow, so barring any mishap, I will be at 1812Tones and then in London for the following week.
I've got the hotel booking form from the latest PR. Who do I talk to for membership?
After the con, I'll be doing my usual rounds of the London Dungeon, the museums, GOSH!, Forbidden Prices, possibly The Tenth Planet, a bookstore run down Charing Cross Road, and maybe take in a few fortean tourist spots. Not that people might want to hang out or anything. Just sayin'.
