Well, to anyone who's gone through first year tort law, that is.

Also, on a non-aww note, but still fascinatingly cool (by way of
stevieannie's own blog), the use of Vegetable Oil to fuel your car. Yes, I want my car to smell like a chip shop. It... comforts me.

DC: The New Frontier trailer
Aug. 17th, 2007 11:18 amIn case people haven't noticed this, the best damn superhero comic book story of the last five years — hell, the last decade, maybe — is being adapted into an animated movie. The sad, sad part is that because of the time constraints, a lot of the best bits had to be cut out. I can only hope that the ultimate product doesn't completely screw up Darwyn's story.
This is the teaser trailer, made up of excerpts from the comic book and snippets of animation.

All we are is dust in the wind
Jul. 11th, 2007 09:56 pmThis may of interest to people, particularly my filk friends:
Lord of the Rings Online, the MMORPG based on you know what, not only has a Minstrel class, but it has an in-game music system that allows players to play, in real time, music using their keyboard.
This is a Youtube clip of someone using the system to play "Dust in the Wind" by Kansas.
Not that I'll switch from World of Warcraft just for this alone, but it's pretty neat.

Whogasm redux
Jun. 22nd, 2007 03:07 pmHere's another version of the earlier video (showing two female fans going nuts while watching the Doctor Who episode "Utopia"), which has a P-in-P that shows you what they were reacting to at the time.
The reactions of two young female fans while watching "Utopia". My reaction was a little, um, lower key - but not by much (and even though I knew what was coming).
You see, this is what I miss when I don't have you guys around to watch these shows with. :) I feel so embarrassed squee-ing or talking to the LCD screen on my own.

Now, personally, I don't mind the very sparse credit style that they do on Heroes, although like Tom Lehrer I wish there was a tune that I could hum. However, there have been fans who've wanted, and tried, to do a more traditional opening titles for the show, as a quick search of YouTube will attest to.
Most are crap (which isn't a surprise), but I found a couple that are pretty good. One is with what passes for a main Heroes title theme and the other is to the tune of Nickelback's "If Everyone Cared", which NBC used on its promos for the show during the hiatus.
Anyhow, here they are:
Heroes long opening (final version)
Heroes - Opening Credits (If Everyone Cared)

Marvelous montages
Jun. 11th, 2007 10:18 amFrom the latest episode of Doctor Who Confidential, a mashup of Doctor Who clips set to the music of Fall Out Boy's "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs".
I'm a sucker for these things (remember the 40th Anniversary montage set to the Orbital Doctor Who theme remix?) because they showcase the long legacy of a show I love so much I want to hug it to sleep.
Yeah, I'm that sappy. What of it?

Man, I'm not sure I'd last 40 minutes...
Well, okay, maybe I could. In fact, when I'm on the bench, I write, not type, my notes, so for like 5 hours out of every day I'm not really on line or required to be wired (hey, that rhymes!). But after work...? Eep.
Anyway, here's the clip. To be fair, what made him crack in the end was ostensibly the fact that he couldn't keep in touch with his daughter, but you cynical lot will just say that he's using her as an excuse and what he really needed was some Crackberry time.

Having watched the trailer for Die Hard 4.0 (or Live Free or Die Hard as it's called in the US), I realized that John McClane is the 1980s version of Jack Bauer.
I know, I know. I'm always late to the party.

When Heroes Returns...
Mar. 7th, 2007 04:48 pmApril 23: It's Time To Save The World
"This is the usually the part when people start screaming."
For a while, Heroes felt like it was cruising a bit, even with the introduction of Christopher Eccleston and George Takei. But the last two episodes... "Company Man" which was so incredibly awesome and emotional, and "Parasite"'s multiple cliffhanger endings, well... I am this show's bitch, I really am.
It's going to be a long wait.

Pop Culture Collision
Jan. 4th, 2007 10:56 amSo, I'm looking at Penny Arcade's latest offering, a relatively funny piece about the Zune, and when I hit the last panel my mind automatically tries to fit the lyrics to "Sometimes When We Touch" — taking me to a dark in my mind where I never wanted to go again lest I scream out in terror at the memory of countless covers of this — before I realise it's not that song.
Turns out it's a new kind of terror entirely: "Everytime We Touch" by Cascada, someone who I've never heard of (and that's when yet another example of my encroaching old fogeyness hits me), and when I watch the music video I sit, slack-jawed in amazement at the banality of the music, although I admit the video does have some mild amusement value.
Two thoughts collide almost simultaneously, reminding me of my popular culture contamination by both sides of the Atlantic.
First, Natalie Horler, the lead singer of Cascada, looks like a young Camille Coduri, so if they want someone to play a younger Jackie Tyler, that's your girl.
Second, listening to the electro-pop melody of the song, I keep expecting Mr Six, that wrinkled old guy from the Six Flags commercials, to jump out and start boogie-ing down. I mean seriously, it's the same bloody instruments.
This is what it is like to live inside my brain. It hurts.
