From the latest episode of Doctor Who Confidential, a mashup of Doctor Who clips set to the music of Fall Out Boy's "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs".

I'm a sucker for these things (remember the 40th Anniversary montage set to the Orbital Doctor Who theme remix?) because they showcase the long legacy of a show I love so much I want to hug it to sleep.

Yeah, I'm that sappy. What of it?

You got to love a Doctor Who episode that carries a parental warning.

From the "Fear Forecast" (a family of five watches the show and the kids rate it on a scale of 1 to 5 for scariness - this week's average was 5.5) review for this weekend's episode, Blink:
NOTE FOR PARENTS: This is one of the scariest episodes of Doctor Who yet. The whole family agree that it is simply brilliant, and all four Fear Forecasters really enjoyed being so frightened while watching it together with mum and dad. The parents suggest that, if you're concerned, then tape the episode, and watch it with children during the daytime, or, at least, a long time before bedtime.
On another note, this story is written by Steven Moffat, who won the Hugo last year for his Doctor Who Series 1 The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances two-parter. Blink itself is loosely based on a fan favourite short story Moffat wrote for the 2006 Doctor Who Annual, "What I Did On My Christmas Holidays by Sally Sparrow".

Re: Human Nature / The Family of Blood

I think we have another Hugo nomineewinner here.

I liked her before, but that line is when Freema Agyeman finally made me fall in love with Martha Jones.

She's gonna be okay.

Recent preview footage from The Runaway Bride, this year's Doctor Who Christmas Special, involving a reference to Terror of the Autons (Episode 2 cliffhanger) and the TARDIS in a car chase(!).

And of course, just by the by, there was a little thing called the Hugo Awards ceremony over the weekend. Four episodes (three stories) from the 2005 series of Doctor Who were nominated: Dalek, Father's Day and The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.

And the winner was... The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Topping the second and third place categories, Dalek and Father's Day respectively. Never before has Doctor Who won a Hugo Award, and a hat trick for all three spots first time out is even sweeter. Being up against Battlestar Galactica's "Pegasus", naturally no one thought we had a chance (and frankly, it would have been such a tough battle to choose between BSG and Who), but once again the membership of Worldcon showed far greater wisdom than we gave them credit for. It was Galaxy Quest beating The Matrix all over again.

Congratulations go out to Steven Moffat, Rob Shearman and Paul Cornell, and the whole production team. The world of Who fandom is feeling incredibly proud, and incredibly smug right now.

Not so much a Doctor/Rose song as a Doctor/Companions song. Or hell, just a damned good love song. Someone should make the music video.

When the night falls on you, you don't know what to do - nothing you confess could make me love you less... )

For those of you who think about such things, following the mindblowing events of the latest Doctor Who story, Army of Ghosts, I got to thinking about the connections between Torchwood and the other super-secret organisations in the extended Doctor Who universe, in the books and audio plays, and how they could fit together.

Scarily well is the answer.

So for people like me, who consider that it's all canon, let's see about fitting together all the super-seekrit stuff from the television series, the novels and the Big Finish audios.

Spoilers for Torchwood in general, various books and audios, and some from Army of Ghosts. )

Just a quick news link before I go into work. This is probably why the R1 release for Series 1 has been delayed.

Spoilery, maybe. )

Mmm. No further comments on "The Second Coming"? Not even to tell me it's crap?

"Welcome to Mars"

Ever since you, the people of Britain, elected me as your representative, I have been looking forward to saying those very words. And ‘looking forward’ beautifully sums up what the Guinevere Project represents.

Over the last six months, the British Government has committed itself to enriching the lives of its people. Unemployment is at an all-time low. Our health service is offering its highest ever level of service, thanks to the Cottage Hospitals initiative.

Thanks to improved teaching methods and our ‘Better School Lunches’ campaign, our children are brighter and healthier than any of their ancestors. We’ve even got the trains running on time! We're entering a Golden Age and, with the successful completion of Guinevere One, we’ll be taking our first determined steps into that Age.

Great Britain has always aimed high. As a nation of pioneers and explorers, our pluck and spirit has made us the envy of the world. This Christmas, however, we’ll be scaling even greater heights as we reach out into that great unknown – space. Two months ago, the Guinevere Probe was launched into the Earth’s atmosphere. Its mission is one of peace, goodwill and scientific exploration.

I can take no credit for the success of Guinevere. That belongs to Professor Daniel Llewellyn and his team at the British Rocket Group. They are the people who’ve made this dream a reality. Their blood, sweat and tears have propelled Great Britain to the front of the Space Race. They are the people that, like you, make this country a great one. A country that I am proud and honoured to represent.

This year has been an exciting and fulfilling year for me personally and I’m looking forward to a relaxing Christmas at home with my elderly mother. We’ll be settling down in front of the television with a box of chocolates and a small glass of sherry each and we hope you’ll join us. Whether you’re in Birmingham or Glasgow, Cardiff or London, at home with your family or socialising in a refreshingly smoke-free pub, we hope you’ll join us in watching the first live pictures from the surface of Mars. Let’s raise a glass and wish Professor Llewellyn and his team the best of British luck.

Bon voyage, Guinevere!
Your faithful servant,

Harriet Jones, Prime Minister

While I'm still trying to whack the next whofic into shape (man, I suck at plotting), here's what I threatened to do some posts ago: a sort of Cliff's Notes for all the continuity easter eggs in "The Last Battle". Yes, this is pure ego, but maybe some may actually be interested in where it comes from.

Notes after the cut. Spoilers for several books and episodes. )

For those who didn't get to see the recent trailer for The Christmas Invasion, or only managed to catch the really 'orrible RealPlayer version, here's some screenshots.
